It is not recommended to stay in the large, but seriously obsolete Hotel Habana Libre, but it would be a mistake to miss a stop at your Casa del Habano. It is the largest cigar store in Cuba that has consistently been full of cigarettes in all our visits since it opened in February 2010, and when a certain cigar cannot be found in one of the other stores it is very likely to be obtained here. .
The breadth of the store begins with the impressive selection of loose cigars, often a point of cigar stores in weak Havana. On a recent visit, we were recommended to purchase individual cigars from most of the 2014 Limited Edition (something we do not see in any other store, which had the Limited Edition available only by box, in any case).
While most stores were out of stock of Punch Punch cigars, Habana Libre had lots of them, at 195 CUC (USD 224) per box. Double crowns of all types were on the shelves, by Ramón Allones Gigantes, Hoyo de Monterrey Doble Coronas and Partagás Lusitanias, with prices ranging from 261 CUC (USD 300) to 285 CUC (USD 328) per box. The store also had three shelves completely dedicated to the new Añejados line, more stock than any other store in Cuba. The staff is friendly and welcoming.
Some of the previous peculiarities of the store have been improved. The military blue wall of one of the smoking areas has been replaced with warmer colors. An elegant smoking room next to the store has been created. We have enjoyed visiting here since it opened, and it has only been improved. No matter where you are in Havana, it is worth stopping here to buy some cigars.
