You can be forgiven for assuming that the Palacio de las Artesanías group of stores is a tourist trap. But it would be a shame to miss a very good cigar store that is about to become better. The store tends to attract a crowd of tourists, rather than serious fans, but they move past the goodies near the entrance and make their way to the humidifier as we did.
This store not only had a lot of Cohiba Robusto Supreme EL 2014 (92 points, 277 cuc for a box of 10), more than any other store we saw, but also had the entire 2014 EL line, a few boxes of H Upmann Sir Winston (91 points, 331.25 CUC). Snooping around the surprisingly well-stocked store, he revealed five boxes of Punch Serie d’Oro Nº 2 EL from 2013 (94 points, 363 cuc), a true gold find as the excellent cigars have been sold in most markets.
The store has been destined to be transformed into a Casa del Habano, which means a complete redesign and an ambitious expansion. The plan is to have it open and renewed in July, but you never know. If it is closed when you visit, you should know that when you return, it will be even better.
