Hotel Vueltabajo is named after the fertile region south of the city of Pinar del Río where some of the world’s highest quality tobacco is grown. While a modest hotel, the country hospitality - even in the heart of this provincial city - makes for a pleasant stay.
Hotel Vueltabajo is one of those ageless hotels that could have hosted travelers 100 years ago as easily as today. As sturdy as the campesinos (farmers) for which Pinar del Río is known, this hotel is occasionally re-painted and refreshed - and it’s looking good these days. The colorful façade is highlighted by the whimsical red and white striped awnings over the tiny balconies.
Inside, the hotel décor is straightforward and not fussy. The focus here is on functionality and while some may find it austere, it’s perfectly comfortable as a weigh station between other stops on your itinerary.

The Hotel Vueltabajo is ideal for a stopover between Havana and the natural treasures of María La Gorda and Cabo de San Antonio. While the trip between the capital and these westernmost destinations may seem fast looking at a map, the drive - interrupted here and there by animal crossings, cyclists, horse carriages, tractors, and other Cuban highway randomness - can be slow going. A stay at the Hotel Vueltabajo is a handy solution.
The hotel features a lobby, bar and restaurant, all in the same no-nonsense style as the rest of the hotel. While in town, you can tour a cigar or brandy factory.
