Raquel Hotel

The dedication and care of Cuban restorers made this hotel possible, taking over an old building from 1905 that had eleven housed offices, a warehouse and a textile depot.

Its Baroque façade and Art Nouveau interior have created an architectural jewel. As soon as you enter the lobby you will feel the Jewish presence in Cuba. The bar was named Lejaim, which means “to life” in Hebrew and is the traditional Jewish toast. The boutique is named Bezalel.

Decorative elements add to the atmosphere; for example, the Star of David and the Menorah, the seven-branch ancient Hebrew lampstand, both of which symbolize one of the most ancient civilizations in the world.

Biblical motifs surround you: rooms are named after Sarah, Abraham, Rachel and Esther, and the typical colors of Israel are in use everywhere.

Raquel Hotel

The Raquel Hotel ensures you have a pleasant stay in any of its 25 rooms or suites, properly outfitted and decorated with works by famous Cuban painters. The four junior suites have their own living rooms and from their balconies you have a clear view of the old city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Don’t forget to look up and admire the huge stained glass ceiling, which is visible from every floor — something quite unique in Cuban hotels. The menu of the Garden of Eden Restaurant features Jewish dishes, another unique element in Cuba. Out on the street you will be close to the small Jewish Quarter of Havana. At the Reception Desk, you can book a tour that will take you to an important synagogue, a site where there used to be a Jewish butcher shop until very recently. The tour also visits a community Sunday school where Cuban children are taught Hebrew.

On the corner of Amargura and San Ignacio streets, the Raquel Hotel provides you with instant access to the most famous spots in Old Havana, particularly the Jewish Quarter of the city where you can attend festivities and see the lifestyles belonging to this culture right in the middle of the tropics, a very unique spirit in Cuba.
