Description

Start the hike in the heart of the village of Cilaos and head into the forest. Admire the magnificent view of the village of l'îlet à Cordes and the canyon dug by the Bras Rouge River.  Cross the river several times where you might need to get your feet wet. Follow the path as it heads towards the heart of an ancient volcanic chamber.  Learn about the geology and primitive volcanic activity of the island. Finally, arrive at an impressive monolith that stretches 100 meters into the sky and is reminiscent of a chapel.

  • Please note that this hike very often obliges the participants to walk through water (water height below the knees)
  • During the hike, you will cross the river several times and the drop of almost 500 meters which may be too high for children
  • We cannot accept minors under the age of 18 unaccompanied by an adult.
  • A good understanding of French is required to take part in this activity
