Description
Your experience begins at Cubo de La Galga, in the northeast of La Palma, one of the island's most spectacular spots for discovering laurel forests. Before starting the hike, your guide will explain the characteristics of this unique ecosystem, a true natural relic that has survived since ancient times thanks to the humid climate of this part of the island.
Gradually, you will venture into the so-called enchanted forest, a lush green landscape where humidity, mist, and vegetation create a truly unique atmosphere. The trail winds through a lush forest made up of laurel, linden, whip ferns, and holly trees, accompanied by giant ferns, mosses, and lichens that cover tree trunks and rocks.
During the tour, you will learn to recognize the main species in the forest using your senses: observing the shapes of the leaves, touching the bark, smelling the scents of certain plants, or listening to the sounds of the forest. This will help you gain a better understanding of how this ecosystem functions and how each species plays a role in a delicate natural balance.
The trail gently ascends through the La Galga Ravine, where the sound of the water, the shade of the forest, and the vegetation make for a truly special hiking experience. As we progress, we will also take advantage of the tranquility and atmosphere of the place to walk at a leisurely pace, observe our surroundings, and connect with the forest and with ourselves, enjoying nature in a more mindful way.
One of the most spectacular points along the route is the Somada Alta Viewpoint, located at an altitude of approximately 850 meters (2,790 feet). From here, you can gaze over the La Galga Ravine from above and appreciate the incredible density of the forest that covers these mountains.
Throughout the hike, your official guide will share explanations about the geology of the island, the formation of the ravines, and the extraordinary biodiversity that characterizes these forests.
