Tobacco Lamentation Alejandro Robaina
The fascinating Tobacco Plantation of the late Alejandro Robaina is located in the region of Vuelta Abajo, southwest of Pinar del Río. High quality tobacco has been cultivated since 1845, but the launch of the famous Vega Robaina as a cigar brand was not carried out until 1997.
Alejandro Robaina was the only contemporary Cuban with a cigar brand with his name. After his death, in 2010, few doubts that an important chapter in tobacco manufacturing in the country was also closed.
To get here you have to take the central road to the southwest of Pinar del Río for 18 kilometers, turn left on another road, follow about 4 kilometers and turn left again on a more irregular road that reaches it plantation.
There are circuits available to visit the plantation, but you should call to make sure or ask at the tourist offices in the region. The best time to visit the plantation is from October to February, as it is the season for growing tobacco.
