Enjoy the Taino legends at Laguna del Tesoro surrounded by the beautiful nature in the south of Matanzas
Laguna del Tesoro
The Laguna del Tesoro is accessed by boat from Boca de Guamá, through a canal surrounded by thick vegetation. With its 9 km2 and 5 km in diameter, the lake has an abundance of trout that inhabit its crystal-clear waters of 4 m of average depth. It is a perfect place for nature tourism and sport fishing in
Cuba.
Legend has it that when the Indians were believed in danger by the Spanish conquerors, they sank a ship in the lake with their most precious possessions to prevent the theft of their wealth.
Laguna del Tesoro
In addition to trout, manatees and manjuaríes can be found, a living fossil that is only found in the Zapata Swamp, although its fishing is prohibited. On the eastern edge of Montemar Park, the Laguna del Tesoro is located halfway between Jagüey Grande and the
Bay of Pigs, known place where
Playa Larga is located.
