Discover the Morro-Cabaña Military Historical Park in Havana, Cuba
Morro-Cabaña Military Historical Park
The views from the Morro-Cabaña Military Historical Park over the city of Havana are spectacular. Likewise, making an excursion across the bay to discover its two old fortresses (
the Castle of the Three Holy Kings of Morro and the Fortress of San Carlos de La Cabaña) is almost obligatory if you are passing through the city.
Although both fortifications are located on the other side of the bay, they have been declared World Heritage by UNESCO along with Old
Havana.
Morro-Cabaña Military Historical Park
The best time to get to know the Morro-Cabaña Military Historical Park is at sunset, since you can attend the emblematic ceremony of “El Cañonazo” in La Fortaleza de San Carlos de La Cabaña, where every day at 9:00 p.m., actors dressed in military uniforms of the eighteenth century recreate the firing of a cannon over the port of
Havana, which was a sign (until 1850) of the closing of the gates of the city wall.
How to get:
- To reach the fortifications there are several alternatives:
- You can take metro buses P8, P11 or P15 and get off at the first stop after the tunnel.
- It is also possible to arrive by taxi. A taxi from Old Havana can cost around 4 or 5 CUC.
Another option is in the Casablanca Ferry that departs from Carlos Manuel Céspedes Avenue (Old Havana). From the pier you just have to continue up the road until you reach the
statue of Christ and turn left.
