Statue of the Christ of Havana

The Statue of the Christ of Havana is located in the town of Casablanca, on the other side of the bay of Old Havana. It is a white marble statue created in 1958 in Italy by the Cuban Jilma Madera.

The Statue of Christ was a promise that Batista's wife made just after she was protected by the US and that she survived an attack on the Presidential Palace in 1957. The statue was inaugurated on Christmas day 1958, just a week after Fulgencio Batista fled the country.
